I want to publicly thank the
members of Council for their support and patience during some
difficult transitions this year.
Council does not accept
compensation for this position, they voted many years ago to
commit their salaries to the Recreation Program. These are
conscientious citizens who have the good of the Borough at heart
and willingly attend numerous meeting to insure the residents
continue to receive the services they have come to expect.
I thank the committees who
cooperated with cuts to their budgets in order that the Borough
would run smoothly, but put a minimum burden on the taxpayers.
I thank Mr. Bob Ruddy and
Mr. George Murphy who spent 6 months working on the union
contract with the police dept. With out their time and patience
and agreement would have been more difficult to reach. A special
thanks to Mr. Murphy for finding money in his highway budget to
hire an additional recreation program supervisor. Our program
was a great success. I understand that Wilhelm shut theirs down
and came over to the Borough and combined with us.
Last but not least. I
would like to thank the Fire Dept. for all they do in our
community. Which is a lot more than just answering fire calls.
I appreciate their
understanding that Council is supporting the Fire Dept. as best
they can by providing $25,000 from the fire tax and another
$13,000 from the general fund for their operation. The dept.
continues to do their own fund raising throughout the year and
needs the residents continued support.
