Mulch

Mulch is now available to borough residents for free!  There is a pile on the right side of the back parking lot.  Help yourself.  Happy Gardening.

Borough Secretary

Long-term Borough Secretary, Bonnie Snodgrass, has announced her intention to retire this spring.  She will be sorely missed.  The Borough will be advertising and accepting applications for a new, part-time Borough Secretary later this winter.  However, letters of intent and cover letters/resumes are welcome now.  Please mail to or drop them off at the Borough Office.  Paxtang Borough Office, 3423 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111 717-564-4770

Historical Society

Continuing our series on the history of Paxtang, the Paxtang Historical Society meeting on January 3 featured Bob McCloskey as speaker.  He talked about life in Colonial Paxtang.  Our next meeting, April 4, 2005, will feature families who lived in Paxtang Valley during Colonial times. We will have representatives from the Elder family and the Rutherford family as our speakers.
For more information regarding the society, visit our website: http://www.paxtanghistoricalsociety.com

Paxtang Toddler Time

Space for young children to stretch their legs during cold weather! Recreation time for pre-K children in the Paxtang gymnasium: 10-11a.m. Jan. 28 and Feb.25. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Paxtang residents only please. Contact Karen Benjamin at 558-0801 with any questions.

Sponsor a Tree

The Shade Tree Commission has been a proud accomplishment of Paxtang Borough for many years. Recently, there have been more budget cutbacks and we are unable to accomplish our usual plantings. Please consider sponsoring a tree in the borough. Plaques are provided with the purchase of a tree. You could purchase it as a family to complete a memorable occasion, in honor of someone special, or in memory of a loved one. Whatever the reason, it is a win for everyone.

Trash Collection

The Borough's trash collection contract is with Waste Management. If your trash pickup is missed, please call the Borough Office to report it for record keeping. If you have a large item (ie., appliances or furniture) sitting outside for an extended period of time, you need to contact Waste Management at 1-800-634-4595 to arrange a pick up. Please note that you will be charged a nominal fee. Note: We would like to use the e-mail as an information/communication tool for updates and emergency information within the borough.

Trash Guidelines

All trash must be in bags, placed inside trash containers and covered with a lid. This assists in a clean and easy pick up for Waste Management. Trash can be placed in your designated trash pick up area as early as 4p.m. on the day prior to pickup. Trash cans shall be put away following pick up as late as 10p.m. on the day of pick up. Our trash ordinance requires that your trash receptacles need to be off the street by 10:00 PM the day of the scheduled pick up.  This part of ordinance was designed to keep the receptacles from sitting out on our Main streets.  We do also ask that receptacles on secondary streets (alleys) be put neatly away and not left strewn in the street. Thank you for your cooperation.

Attention Rental Property Owners

It is your responsibility to advise the Borough Office 564-4770 when your renters leave or change. The office needs to keep rental property information up to date and inform the Central Dauphin School District of tenants with children in the Borough.

Vehicles Parked in a Yard

Please be aware that it is against Borough ordinances to park any type of vehicle in a yard unless it is a designated parking area and meets Code requirement as to the type of surface the vehicle is to be parked.  Check with Brian Seneca our Codes Officer at 773-0636 to make sure your in compliance.
